NEW PLYMOUTH.

Dear Bee, March 18. This has been the JUBILEE WEEK in the annals of New Plymouth. Everything has been eu fete to commemorate the 50th anniversary of Archdeacon Govett's ministration amongst us, which has taken place most happily just after his return from his last visit, accompanied by Miss Govett, to the Old Country. We are all rejoiced to see them back again amongst us in renewed health and happiness. The programme opened with THANKSGIVING SERVICE at St. Mary’s on Sunday last, the evening attendance especially being the largest ever seen at the church, numbers being unable to obtain admission. A suitable and impressive sermon was preached by the Primate, and the solos in the anthems were taken by Miss B. Bayly and Mr Walton, of Auckland. The church was prettily decorated for the occasion. On Monday evening a Social was given in the Theatre Royal, and the hall was packed with friends and parishioners, the proceedings being presided over by the Primate and the Mayor (Mr Dockrill). An address was presented by the vestry, and a presentation of a life ticket, by Mr J. Paul, on behalf of the New Plymouth Bowling Club, to both of which the Archdeacon feelingly responded. Several Glees and duets were given, and an enjoyable evening, supplemented by the inevitable handing round of al fresco refreshments, closed about 10 p.m. Among those present were Mrs Cowie, black silk, pretty cap; Miss Govett, very pretty pale blue velvet; Airs Broham, black silk trimmed with very handsome Honiton lace; Mrs — Stanford, fawn and pink; Mrs G.
