MELSON.
Dear Bee, March 9. The pupils attending- the Girls’ College had a very ENJOYABLE BLACKBERRY PICNIC at Wakefield last Wednesday. The weather was perfect, clear sunshine, but not. too hot. Several past pupils and friends were also present, so that altogether a large party met at the station at 9.30 o’clock that morning, and after a pleasant journey to Wakefield the business of the day began. Blackberries were very plentiful, and large quantities were picked, despite the pricks and scratches to one’s hands. During the afternoon several of the picnickers went to see the ericket match, Wakefield v. Town Volunteers, which was being played in the vicinity, where quite a large number of people were present, and the Stoke Orphanage Band was discoursing sweet music, and Mrs and Miss Pearless and several other ladies were dispensing delicious tea and cakes. Later on these same ladies provided a sumptuous repast for the cricketers. Amongst those present at the picnic were Mrs Bain, Mrs Rowe, the Misses Gibson (Lady Principal), Gribben, Pearce, Lawrel, Catley, Preshaw (2), Fell (3), Adams (Patea), Legett, Sealy (2), Houlker, Hunter Brown, Kempthorne, Norman, Crump, Johnson, Bell, — J others.
PHYLLIS.
