That the energetic Vicar of Holy Trinity, Devonport, the Rev. S. Hawthorne, is arranging a juvenile exhibi- • tion and hobby show, to be held in the schoolroom on April 13, 14, and 15. The object of this exhibition is to interest the various children in practical and pleasant work, which at the same time will yield funds in the Sunday-school. There are four hon. secs. —Messrs Waters, Richardson, Misses R. Gavey and Bongard—who are all glad to give any information to intending exhibitors. The latter are not confined to the district. Great interest is being taken in the affair.

That the much-talked-of cricket match between the Bankers and Public Servants came off on Saturday afternoon in the Recreation Grounds, New Plymouth, ending in a win for the latter. Afternoon tea was provided by Mesdames Holmes and Esse, assisted by several other young ladies. That the Northern Gun Club opened their season on Saturday in Mr Paton’s paddock, Epsom. There was a large attendance of gentlemen. That on Sunday, March 13, the celebration of the jubilee of the Venerable Archdeacon Govett’s ministry is to take place, the Primate of New Zealand and other clergy being present, and on March 14 a public social will be held in the Theatre Royal. That Government House, Wellington, has been painted and papered throughout during the absence of His Excellency the Governor and Lady Ranfurly in Christchurch, and will be ready for their return to Wellington on the 27th. Lady Ranfurly has also sent Home for new carpets, which arrived in Wellington a short time ago; they will be a great and much-needed addition, the old ones having looked very dingy and unsuitable. That Mrs W. Young and her sister, Miss Renwiek, drove through from Weld’s Hill (Awatere) to the Hanmer Springs, spent a very pleasant fortnight there, coming on to Christchurch for a few days. They returned last week via Kaikoura. That the Girls’ High School, Wellington,held their swimming sports at the Thorndon Baths on Wednesday afternoon. Mrs Barron and Miss Hilda Moorhouse officiated as judges, and Miss Morrah as starter. The races were very keenly contested in most cases, some of them having to be swum twice over in consequence of the leaders having tied. At the conclusion of the sports cheers were given by the girls for Miss Hamilton, the Lady Principal, who was übiquitous in her efforts to ensure the success of the sports, and also for the judges and starter. That the Synod of the Presbyterian Church in Southern New Zealand has arranged to hold special Jubilee meetings to celebrate the EOth anniversary of the arrival of the first colonists in Otago. The Free Church of Scotland sent out the first shipload of immigrants under, the care of Captain Cargill and the Rev. Thos. Burns, a nephew of the poet. The deputies for the Otago Jubilee from the Free Church of Scotland are the Rev. R. S. Duff. D.D.. of Glasgow, and the Rev. R. Mclntosh, of Alva.
