GOLF.

The hot weather lately experienced in M ellington has prevented even enthusiastic golfers from patronising the links lately. The grass, too. is getting too long to lie pleasant, and the attendance at the links now is very intermittent and small. The monthly handicap match was held last Saturday on the Auckland Golf Club links, Green Lane. It resulted in a win for Mr Burness with I*I —2 —92. Mr Carr was second with 101—8 —93. Other cards handed in were as follows:—Mr Gillies, 92 —5 — 97: Leatham, Ill —13—98; M. A. Clark, 119 —20—99: Brassey, 105—9—99: A. Clark. 124 —22 —102; Norton, 115 —13— 102; Turner. 109—6—103: Caldwell. 115 —B—lo7. Lord Hampden, Governor of New South Wales, had two rounds of the links on Saturday last, and was well pleased with the appointments. His Excellency has only taken to golf within the last IS months, but is already a fair player.
