NOTES.

Barrier Reefs. —The shaft is now down 92ft ami the country is improving. The low level is in 298 ft ami the reef is now fully Bft wide. Orlando.—The manager forwarded to the Company’s office some stone from the reef, which presents a most encouraging appearance, being very heavily mineralised.

Jersey (Cabbage Bay).—Good stone from this mine was on view at the office of the Company. Some pieces of the quartz showed blotches of bright Hake gold, but the whole of the stone is w-ell peppered with fine gold. Copper Mining.—Robert Bell, a wellknown settler of Whangaroa, has sent for treatment at the Thames School of Mines a test parcel of copper pyrites. The ore was obtained from the recent discovery at that place and is heavily charged with mineral. Adelaide.—ln the rise the leader is 3in wide. Below the level it is loin thick and shows nice blotches of gold. Stanley.—At the waterfall crosscut a strong lode 16ft thick has lieen cut through. Imperial.—The reef south of the break at No. 4 level is a nice compact Ixxly of ore fully 2ft thick, yielding a fair prospect of gold. Monowai.—Work is being pushed ahead by this Waiomo Company, and the fresh developments are very satisfactory. Several adits are lieing connected from the outcrop of the reef down to the lower level, ram lines are being laid down to the battery, which is also being put in order, and crushing should soon lie underway, The treatment to be used is the wet process and concentration. Rising Sun (Owharoa). —The third contract for driving 100 feet has been completed, leaving 150 feet to be negotiated before the lode is met.

Hauraki Associated. — The winze on Rainlsiw lead, No. 1 level, is producing good milling ore from eight to ten inches wide, in which nice dabs of gold are seen. Fiery Cross.—The manager reported this week the discovery of splendid-looking stone eastward of the present workings. Golden Point.—ln the low level the reef at present is 9in thick and shows colours of gold. Mount Argentum.—Assays made at the Bank of New Zealand of stone from the hangingwall of the lode at the laittoni of the shaft returned at the rate of £8 2s 8d per ton. Golden Lead.— In the winze the reef here is showing colours of gold pretty freely. Nonpareil.—The usual amount of crushing dirt is lieing won from the stopes, in which gold is frequently seen. In the east end of the third stope the reef averages 18 inches, and when broken down gold was more freely seen than at any time in the eastern end.

Welcome Find.—At last breaking down of the lode in the winze a few colours of gold were seen. Cuirassier. — A good-looking reef 4 feet thick has been discovered on this property 400 feet lower down than the one alreadyworked. Kaiser.—The reef has widened out to 2 feet and gives fair prospects in the dish. Victoria. —ln the stopes gold is seen each time the reef is broken down.
