PAWA.
Dear Bee, September 3. After all being kept prisoners in the house for about a fortnight with the very wet weather, and still worse mud, we are all beginning to liven up a bit nnder the influence of once more beholding good old ‘ King Sol. ’ Last Wednesday night a most enjoyable SURPRISE PROGRESSIVE BUCHRE EVENING was given to Mrs Norman Haszard. They certainly must have got a thorough surprise, for they were just going out. However, everything had been so well managed by the lady who got it up, that in a few moments after going in the house we were all seated playing cards. First prizes were carried off by Mrs Hay-Chapman and Mr Pratt, while booby honours were taken by Mrs Pratt and young Mr Hazsard. We played till 10 o’clock, then had supper, which was a very rtchercht one. After that we danced till 12. Now for the dresses. Mrs Norman Haszard, a pretty white evening blouse, black skirt; Mrs Gooch, white spotted muslin trimmed with lace ; Mrs Pratt looked well, as she always does, in black snrah silk relieved on the bodice with just a touch of yellow; Mrs Hay-Chapman, pale pink silk blouse, black skirt ; Mrs Brunskill, blue crepon ; Miss Anderson, white evening blouse, black skirt; Miss Wight looked especially well in a gown of heliotrope lustre with pansy-coloured ribbons ; her sister, white piqud ; the Misses Forster, pretty grass cloths with white satin ribbons; Miss Gibbons was attired in cream nnn's jreiling ; Miss A. Gibbons wore a pretty pale green costume ; Miss Kinworthy (Patea), blue silk striped blouse, black skirt; Miss Ansley, pale blue evening blouse ; Miss Radford (Auckland) looked well in a bright pink Indian muslin. Amongst the gentlemen were Messrs Pratt, Haszard, Gooch, Jackson, Mueller, McVeagh, Vercoe, Anderson, Withers, Connolly, Fletcher, Brodie, Ansley, etc., etc.
Doris.
