THE WOMEN OF GUIANA.

The wife of the coolie in Guiana is a woman who is very much to be envied. Every gold or silver piece her husband receives for his services is beaten into persona] trinkets to be worn by his better half. In this condition it constitutes tbe cash wealth of the family. It is perfectly safe, as it is as much as stay man’s life is worth to touch them so long as the woman wears them. These same women are also noted for their beauty. Their features are straight and perfect ; their eyes beautiful in colour and their forms perfect models of symmetry and grace. Dressed in soft, filmy materials, rich iu colour and Eastern figures they present strangely Oriental and fantastic appearances.
