Dear Bee, April 22. After the terrible storm which raged all through New Zealand Easter Monday turned out a beautiful day. THE STAR FOOTBALL CLUB’S ANNUAL SPORTS, which were held in the Recreation Ground, were well attended, numbers coming in from the country to attend. During the day Mr C. B. Lever, the indefatigable secretary, was presented with a gold chain and medal suitably inscribed. Mr P. R. Carthew, the president of the Club, made the presentation. Amongst those present I noticed Mrs Taunton, in black serge ; Miss G Holdsworth, navy blue serge coat and skirt, crimson waistcoat, Mrs Skeet, black; Miss N. Skeet, brown tweed; Miss M. Skeet, fawn ; Miss N. Web ster, striped fawn and white coat and skirt; Miss Glynnes, grey ; Miss F. Cornwall, grey; Mieses M. and G. Fookes, black serge coats and skirts; Mrs W. Bayly, black ; Miss Bayly, black skirt, green silk blouse ; Miss C. D. Bayly, black trimmed with heliotrope; Miss Carrie Bayly. yellow and preen shot lustre; Miss B. Bayly, black ; Mrs Sare (Hamilton), black silk; Mrs Vaughan, grey ; Miss M. Hursthouse, brown tweed ; Miss N. Hursthonse, brown tweed trimmed with fur; Miss Campbell, grey tweed; Miss F. Campbell, cream ; Miss O. Tuke, fawn ; Miss B. Tuke, navy blue serge; Mrs McKellar, grey; Miss McKellar, black serge coat and skirt; Mrs F. Webster, black ; Miss M. Webster, grey tweed.
In the evening the Friendly Societies* Band held a SOCIAL in the Alexander Hall. During the evening Mr H. Cottier, the Bandmaster, was presented with a conductor’s baton by Mr A. E. A. Clarke, the President. The music, which was under the leadership of Mr D. McKinnon Bain, was very good. Several songs were contributed during the evening. The same evening Mrs Marshall gave A PROGRESSIVE WHIST PARTY, which passed off very successfully. There were six tables altogether. The first prizes were won by Miss McKellar and Mr T. Fookes. and the booby prizes by Miss Kelsey and Mr Watkins. Others present were Mr and Mrs James Wilson (Wellington), Mrs Matthews, Mr and Mrs John Wilson, Mrs Marchand (Timaru). Mrs T. Fookes. Mrs Kelsey, Misses Devenisb, Hirst, Hamerton (two), Kent (Auckland), Hursthouse. Dalziell, Fookes, Rockfort, and Messrs Skinner and H. Fookes.
