MINING NOTES.

Bunker’s Hill (Coromandel). —In the drive from the winze below No. 2 level the reef still looks promising, and when broken down several pieces of stone shewed nice dabs and blotches. The reef is about 12ft in thickness. Victoria (Thames). —From the drive eastward at the intermediate level ore of first-class quality is being obtained. Westward a very noticeable improvement has taken place in the lode, and a few pounds of stone have been saved fair. A supply of payable ore is also coming to hand from the stopes over these levels. Dover Castle (Thames). —Both Nos. 1 and 2 reefs have been opened up for a length of 50ft. In each good prospects have been met with. Alburnia East (Thames).—A little gold is seen at each breaking down of the lode. The reef is at present two feet wide. Hauraki No. 2 (Coromandel). —On breaking down the new leader quartz looked so well that every piece was carefully looked over, as from its appearance the reef might show gold at any time. Adelaide.—A supply of crushing dirt is coming from Adelaide reef, south of the crosscut. In the rise the reef is six inches wide and shows colours of gold. Four-in-Hand (Coromandel). —The hangingwall leader intersected in the low level shows gold. Kapai-Vermont (Kuaotunu). —In No. 2 level the reef averages three to ten feet in width aud at different times gives nice prospects. In the rise lhe reef averages Bft. In the stopes the reef averages sft and the ore is of good quality. Very fair dirt is being got from No. 3 stope, where the reef is 4ft in width. Premier.—A good prospect of loose gold is obtainable from bottom of winze in this claim. Orion (Thames). —In breaking down No. 1 reef a nice tail of gold was visible in each dish washed. I’ll Try.—The directors of this Coromandel Companv have granted an option for two months for the flotation of the claim on satisfactory terms. Wynyardton (Coromandel). —The new reef is opened up northwards, and the stone prospects well. Hauraki North (Coromandel). —Operations in this mine have once more been resumed, and driving in the main reef at No. 2 level east and west is now underweigh. Golden Pah.—The English Company that purchased this Coromandel property has commenced sinking the shaft by means of a Tangye engine and winding gear. A large number of men are now engaged in excavating on the property. Blagrove's Freehold (Coromandel). —The main crosscut at the 200 ft level is now in a total distance of 640 ft, going East. In this driving several of the reefs which were located on the surface have been intersected, varying from 6in up to 4ft in thickness, and all carrying prospects of gold, while in one leader upon which driving was commenced colours of gold were seen on several occasions in the stone. Silver King (Te Aroha). —Active preparations are being made for the extensive development of this mine, which has been satisfactorily placed on the London market by the Rev. Joseph Campbell. Tui Goldmines (Te Aroha). —Some very nice-looking stone has been obtained from the champion lode. The work to connect the existing levels on the western side of the hill will be commenced very shortly. Montezuma (Te Aroha). —A parcel of very good-look ing stone was taken out of the main lode which traverses the whole length of this mine. Silver Star (Te Aroha).—The main reef in this mine is a fine body of quartz which in several places is fully 30 feet wide, containing ore showing sulphides freely. Darwin (Thames). —The leader is still about gin. wide, and shows strong blotches of gold. Kaiser (Thames). —The reef has shown gold freely. It is about 3ft. wide. Karaka Queen (Thames). —At No. 2 level lolbs of picked stone were secured from the reef, which is sft. thick. Strong colours of gold are also showing in the face of the reef. Argosy.—About izlbs of picked stone were obtained this week from No. 1 rise. lona (Great Barrier). —The reef of silver ore is more regular through the stone taken out, and the reef looks more kindly than it did.
