NELSON.

Dear Bee. March 9. The weather cleared up beautifully on Saturday afternoon for the match between the NELSON AND WELLINGTON BOWLERS, which was played on the Nelson Club’s Green, the result being a win for the home team with a majoritv of twenty-two. Delicious afternoon tea and cakes were dispensed by Mrs Edwards, wife of the President of the Club, assisted by the Misses Edwards. Amongst the many onlookers I noticed some stylish gowns. Mrs Edwards wore black silk trimmed with jet, bonnet to match ; Mrs Percy Adams, handsome light grey silk, black hat with a profusion of lovely pink flowers ; Mrs Howie, black silk sprigged with heliotrope. sleeves of heliotrope shot silk veiled with black lace, toque to match : Mrs C. Watts wore black

mourning costume. Mrs Robinson, black crepon. black bonnet with coloured flowers; Mrs Gannaway. black silk, bonnet to match with shaded red flowers; Mrs J. Sharp, pretty green flowered muslin, bodice tartly veiled with cream lace, stylish black hat with shaded flowers ; Miss Edwards looked well in heliotrope muslin trimmed with white lace, white hat with feathers ; her sister wore white ; Miss Gannaway. blue muslin, shaded straw hat trimmed with ribbons and flowers; Miss Heaps, black serge skirt, light blouse, sailer hat with black ribbon band; Miss Luxford, pretty pink gown, white hat; Mrs (Dr.) Roberts wore black serge, large b’ack hat with bright flowers; Mrs Mackay, black silk : Mrs Lyall also wore black. Quite a number of people drove out from town to Waimea West on Sunday morning, to attend the consecration service. held on the occasion of the opening of the new Roman Catholic Church by Bishop Grimes, of Christchurch The ceremony began by a process'on led by the Bishop and the Rev. Fathers Mahoney. Broussard and Ainsworth. which proceeded round the church into the sacred edifice by the front entrance. Father Mahoney celebrated mass, and Bishop Grimes preached a most eloquent and impressive sermon. The drive back to town was anything but pleasant, as rain fell in torrents, and many of the occupants of the different vehicles must have got drenched. In the evening the Bishop preached at St. Mary’s and on Monday he gave a most interesting lecture in the Provincal Hall.

Phyllis.
