LAWNS & LINKS.
THE Thorndon Tennis Club, Wellington, have at last managed to open the season, the opening day being last Saturday, when there was a very fair attendance. In Picton the Misses Greensill gave afternoon tea to all their friends who chose to go at the opening of their tennis court at Brooklyn on Wednesday. Some good sets were played, and everybody enjoyed themselves, Among those present were Mesdames James Greensill, Philpotts, Howard, Sealy, the Misses Greensill (two), Allen (two), Howard, Seymour (four), Conolly, Scott, Philpotts, Downes, etc., etc. In Auckland tennis is holding its own, despite the very many other attractions. To-day (Wednesday) the Parnell Lawn is to be opened, and as there is not much else going on, there should be a large attendance at this popular rendezvous. In Nelson on Saturday afternoon the Brook Tennis Club opened their season. The courts are in splendid condition and do great credit to Mr C. Green, who spares neither trouble nor expense to keep them in good order. A slight shower of rain fell at rather an unfortunate time —just when the delicious afternoon tea had been served, but a friendly tree sheltered nearly everyone. Amongst those present were mesdames Green, Burns, Roberts, the Misses Curtis, Gibbs, Sadd, Green, Edwards, WebbBowen, Campbell, and many others.
