OB ITUARY.

ALL who knew Mr Herbert Godfrey were deeply grieved to hear of his death last Friday morning in Picton, at the age of 46. for some months past he had been travelling agent for the Loan and Mercantile in Blenheim, but his family still remained in Picton, where he went when his illness first began. Great sympathy is felt for his widow and three children, one girl and two boys. Mr F. N. Robinson, Manager of the Loan and Mercantile, Mr Canavan, and Mr Carey, of the same institution, attended the funeral on Saturday, taking with them a large and beautiful wreath, made by Mrs Croker, from the office. The coffin and hearse were covered with beautiful floral tributes to the worth of the deceased. The Rev. A. H. Sedgwick performed the burial service. News has been received by cable from London of the death of Mr Steen, of Macky, Logan, Steen and Company, warehousemen, Auckland. The cause of death was typhoid fever. Side by side with joy is sorrow, for on the eve of Cup Day in Christchurch, the greatest of the racing year, Dr. Prins passed away—a man beloved by his family’, his patients, and an immense number of friends, besides being identified very closely with every race meeting at Riccarton for many years as a steward of the C.J.C.. and owner of several horses. Very much sympathy is expressed on all sides with his family. Mr Jouett, an early settler in Taranaki, but who on the war breaking out in iB6O took refuge in Nelson, died at that town the other day at the age of 77 years.

The death is announced of M. Mostini, one of the oldest and most esteemed residents of Noumea, which occurred suddenly on October 26th. M. Mostini was one of the founders of the Noumean press, and was for some time director of the Civil Printing Office, the first established in the country, and also one of the founders of the newspaper Le Caledonie. M. Mostini, who at the time of his death was 65 years of age, arrived in New Caledonia in 1862.
