Lieutenant Andre, the Swedish officer who is to attempt to go to the North Pole in a balloon, has received applications from more than a score of Swedish women who wish to join him in his perilous trip. A few months back (says London Truth) I gave some startling instances of sweating among the employees of public libraries ; but I do not remember a case so bad as the following from Holyhead. The managers of the Public Library there are advertising fora librarian whose whole time will be required for the duties. The salary is per annum. In other words, these unconscionable sweaters offer a public librarian considerably less than the wages of a street scavenger.
