HER FEATHER FAN.
Upon her toilet-stand it lay. Above it shone the candles bright ; And she was standing in array For some delightful ball to-night. Her graceful figure, tall and slight With anxious pleasure does she scan— It lies upon the cover white, Her Feather Fan.
Dim evening takes the place of day, But is disguised with warmth and light; The ballroom gleams with figures gay, But she is somewhere else to-night— Beneath a fan palm out of sight, And near some lilies, tall and wan, She holds within her fingers slight Her Feather Fan. Among the flowers he takes his wav, He sees her dress of shimmering white, He will not heed her answer, • Nay !’ He’ll seize the prize he seeks to-night. He bends (she has no time for flight). But while her lips with laughter ran, She holds before her eyes so bright Her Feather Fan. L’ENVOI. Lady, your heart is young and light, You laugh at that forlorn young man ; I fear he’ll ne’er forgive it quite,— Her Feather Fan. Chrystal.
