GRAPHOLOGY OR PEN PORTRAITS.

* Thorero. ’ —You are full of benevolence and universal kindness of heart. Your temper is excellent, your mind is clear, your opinions are liberal, and you are truthful and conscientious, but too much disposed to take everything as it comes. Your equanimity is difficult to disturb, and you have so much love of peace and harmony,and such an extraordinary dislike to discord and contention that you would sacrifice almost anything save principle to secure the one and avoid the other. You possess an abundance of good sense and prudence, yonr actions are deliberate, your judgdment is sound, and free from prejudice, especially if the interests of others be in question, where your personal advancement is concerned. You are inclined to be too ‘ easy.’ You have a great store of patience, but perseverance is deficient. If you really exert your power of will, you have firmness and quiet determination. In all things you are honourable, straightforward, and sincere, a faithful friend and a generous enemy, while to give or cause intentional pain is quite impossible to yon.—Marcella.

* Picture.’—You have a wonderfully strong will, and in every respect a firm and determined character. You are calm, self-possessed, and never guilty of hurry or rash impetuosity. You like to rule, but you govern well, and your laws are just and your precepts generous. You observe closely, and judge leniently, alwavs inclining to mercy’s side. Your affections are very warm, but you never waste them. You expect a full return, and generally receive it. You possess wonderful influence over the opposite sex. Without the least effort of imagination I can confidently assert that ‘ you wind them round your little finger. ’ You are not imaginative nor have you over-sensitive feelings, but you like ease, luxurious surroundings and harmony. You are highprincipled, and you obtain your wishes by quiet resolution and indomitable force of will.—Marcella.

‘Cornflower.’—Your handwriting indicates great originality, independence, and self-reliance. You can take your own part and look after your personal interests with admirable circumspection and aavoir Jaire. You have a clear and powerful intellect, great mental ability, and a lively imagination, but the latter is well regulated and never permitted to run riot. You read character well, with keen and discriminating observation, which is seldom deceived or mistaken. Your opinions are decided, and very difficult to change ; while your energy is almost indefatigable. You exercise great influence over others, and as a friend you are faithful and unswerving, but if your trust be once really shaken, it is gone forever. You are just and honourable, but rather severe. Your temper is naturally ‘ hot ’ and impatient, but you can command it well. You never betray confidence, or allow more of your private feelings to be understood than you consider necessary and desirable. ‘ Daisy.*—There is a resemblance between your characteristics and those of ‘Cornflower.’ You also have great energy, imaginative power, and independence of spirit ; but you are more impulsive, and full of fun. You thoroughly enjoy a joke, and have an acute appreciation for wit and humour, but you have a kind heart, and if you occasionally cause pain, it is unintentional, and because you do not comprehend the weaknesses of extreme sensibility and sentiment. You are determined, persevering, enterprising, and full of courage and hopefulness ; but although you have a large share of pride, you are not ambitious. Your temper is good, you like comfort, ease, and, above all, freedom. To the opinion of others you are very indifferent, and you delight in leading some astray as to your actual thoughts, feelings, and affections. In conclusion, I must remind you that granhology can easily detect traits of character which are unknown to intimate friends, and sometimes to the writers themselves.—Marcella.

‘Jessamine.’ —You leave me in doubt whether to address you as a lady or a gentleman, but you have a bright, happy disposition, full of versatility and activity, both physical and mental. You have excellent deductive judgment, and good logical power of reasoning. To express my meaning in plain words, you can put two and two together remarkably well, and your comprehension and intuition are so quick that, although you form your opinions rapidly, they are generally correct, while as a sympathetic listener you are second to none. A little more firmness and strength of will would be an improvement, and again to you I must reiterate you are over sensitive and wanting in self-reliance. You possess acute discernment and refined taste; you are affectionate and unselfish, but you do not appreciate yourself, although you feel a slight or injustice keenly. I am sure you are an excellent writer, as your ideas flow easily, but in conversation you do not manifest your own powers, and perseverance is deficient. ‘Molly Bawn.’—You have a very warm heart and a most affectionate disposition, undemonstrative to the outer world, but firm and steadfast, and capable of selfsacrificing devotion. Your love once given would be unchangeable. I think it possible that you might on occasion become jealous, but you have not an imaginative temperament, therefore it would never be without cause, and your excellent practical sense would always assist you. Then your will is strong and resolute, and you have a decided individuality, and are thoroughly genuine and sincere. Your temper is ‘ hot,’ and you can be very angry indeed, although never without unjustifiable provocation, and you can always command yourself, but you are extremely independent, and you cannot brook interference or restraint. You are courageous, hopeful, and self-reliant, but your share of ambition is moderate, as you are contented with your position, and have very little vanity or self-esteem.—Mar-cella.
