The Count, although poor, loved the girl with tropical warmth and Oriental fervour. * Darling,’ he whispered to her, * there is nothing you could ask of me that I would not willingly grant.’ 'Well, Count.’ she responded, 'give me a chance to marry somebody who has a little—just a little bit—more money than you have ; there’s a dear fellow.’
