GOLD AT WHANGAREI.

Settlers in Whangarei have for a long time contended that there was gold as well as silver in the district, and the truth of this has been demonstrated by a trial crushing ot three tone which was treated this week at the Thames. The value of the gold obtained from this parcel was £4 9s, the yield being at the rate of about half an ounce per ton. Provided the lode is large enough and could be worked economically, this ground ought to prove remunerative if systematically developed.
