Dear Bee, • October 10. THE MARLBOROUGH CRICKET CLUB opened their ground for the season last Saturday with a march. Married v. Single, which was won by the married men bj- live runs. There were a great number of people present, the weather being fine, but not warm enough for any display of summer frocks among the ladies. Mesdames Orr and Cawte presided over afternoon tea. which was served in a large marquee in a shady corner, and they were assisted by Miss Cawte and a number of young ladies, who handed round the tea and delicious cakts I noticed among I hose on the ground Mesdames Gritliths, Ferguson. Park. Cleghorn, Weetman Thompson. Ballard, Thompson. Jackson. Snodgrass. Mclntosh, McCallum, .1. Bed wood. Clouston, Bellas. Robinson. Hiley. Curtis, Hillman. Crawshaw. Barlow. Neville. Salmon. C Earp, etc., and Misses Rees. Harris. Chaytor (two). Lysnar (Gisborne), Cawte, McLauchlan (two*, M. Carey. Philpotts (Picton), Baber, Simson. Draper (two), E. Carey. Fergu son. Farmar (two). Curtis. Rayner (two), etc. Mrs Charles Watts left Blenheim on Monday for Nelson, accompanied by Miss Harris and her sons. Mrs Watts will make her future home in Nelson, and will be very much missed here b. her many friends. On Wednesday the BLENHEIM ROWING CLUB opened for the season, but. the pleasure of the afternoon was spoiled by the high wind, which blew clouds of line sand from t he river banks on to the spectators. After the Mayor (Mr ’Thomas Horton) had pronounced the season open, the usual procession of boats was formed. During the afternoon Mr Horton, on behalf of the Club, presented four silver cups to the Seymour crew , in recognition of their success at. the Championship Regatta last Easter. Three cheers were then given for the Seymour crew and three more for their coach (the clubs worthy president). Mr G. B. Richardson, at present absent, in England. Afternoon tea was served in the tine new boat-shed by Mesdames Draper, Penney. T. Watson, Tait. Dick. M’Kinley. and the Misses Draper (two). E. Carey, M. Ewart, and Enieny, cakes, etc., being con tributed by the ladies interested in the club, and was much appreciated. Those I noticed present were Mr and Mr- F. Robinson. Mr and Mrs Snodgrass. Mr and MrsG. Robinson. Mesdames Cloust on, Mclntosh. Kellas, A. Farmer, Thompson, Curt is, Ballard. Powell, etc., and Misses Chaytor (two). Draper (three). Horne (two). Ball (two*. E Carey, McLauchlan (two*. Farmer. Curtis, Clare Horton (two). Robinson (three). Leahy (two*. Lysnar (Gisborne). Kitto. Muir. Cullen. Wemyss. Simson. etc., etc . and the men present were too numerous to mention.
