TOWEL-STICKS. Even if we are not sufficiently painstaking to attempt the somewhat depressing task of embroidering borders on all onr towels, still some few might be dignified with this special mark of attention, and then for ever after play the easy part cf hiding their less ornamental but more useful brethren from sight. Undoubtedly the towel rail in our bedroom looks all the better for having a towel of a somewhat larger size, unused and daintily embroidered, thrown over the rest, and there is nothing better for the purpose of decoration than the well known Russian work that is always so eflective on washing materials. The towel is made of Russian linen, and the embroidery carried cut with red. blue and white eotion. Onr illustration shows part of the enlarged design. The centre star in the circular design is worked alternately with red and white cotton in satin stitch, the triangular devices in the two following circles are red and blue, the festoons

red, the three stem stitch lines of the outer eirele red, white and blue, the scallops of the border blue, with small red points iu satin stitch. The centre point in the rquare figure is red, with blue stem stiteh rays, the interval filled in with herring-bone stitches in white, and the whole surrounded with waved red lines. The outline design between tbe centre su<t border of rnasre are carried oat alternately in blae and red eutton, with fillings in white shere indicated.
