She had been married to the Italian count just a month. ‘ Why,’ he asked one day, ‘ do you not call me “ dear ?” ' ‘ Because,’ she smiled sweetly and patiently, * I don’t want to hurt your feelings.’ For the hundredth time her mind reverted to the terms oi the marriage settlement.
His obsequies, I grieve to note, Took place this af terne on. He had a lovely overcoat, But left it off too soon.
