Dear Cousin Kate —I see you have very few boy cousins, so I should like very much to be one. 1 often read the children’s page, and I have often wished to be a consin, so now I have made up my mind to be one. We, the Clyde Qiay School, broke up for our midwinter holidays, and though I am not going away for my holidays, I hope I will enjoy myself in Wellington, and mother wishes to take me to the candle works and to Plimerton if the weather is fine. I am very fond of pet animals, especially kittens and dogs. My brothers are making a lawn, but the weather is so bad that they cannot go on with it; and another reason, they are back at school and at work. I have saved up my money since the 4th of August last year, and I have now £1 Is s£d. I am taking part in a concert which is to be held on Friday week, the 12;h of this month. Hoping this letter is not too short, as it is the first time, I most say good-bye.—Yonr loving cousin, Basil. Wellington. [lt is with much pleasure that I welcome a boy cousin again. As you say, I have not many. A number told me they would write, and some are very faithful correspondents, but like my own brothers, boys, as a rule, ‘ have not time ’ to write. I think one reason is that they have so much more to do outside than girls have. There is always something to be done to bicycle, skates, sledges, fences, boats, building, teaching a dog, or exercising a pony, that there seems no time to sit still and write, does there ? Please tell me how your concert goes off, and whab you do with your nice savings ’—Cousin Kate.] Dear Cousin Kate.—l have not written to you for some time. We are having our winter holidays now. We have been having very cold weather the last two or three weeks, and the hills are lookiog very pretty covered with snow. I am sending some puzzles for the puzzle column, which I notice has been very bare latelv. lam also sending the answer to one of Cousin Charlie's puzzles. I went for a ride last week, and enjoyed it very much. How many votes are there for the story and essay competition ? Have you ever played a game called Colorito ’ it is very interesting. The cousins seem to have left off writing the last week or two. As I have no more news I will say good-bye. I remain with love—Cousin Dot. Blenheim. PS —I notice another Dot has started writing lately. [Yes, you are now C >nsin Dot No. 1. There were abont ten votes or so for the story and essay competition. I hope you will try for it. Yes, it is cold, but we have no snow. Do you get any skating in Blenheim ? I hear there is plenty of water there in wet weather. What do you find to amuse yourself with in the winter holidays? Thank you for the puzzles.—Cousin Kate ] BADGE FOR HUMANE SOCIETY. One of my new Cousins sent me 12 half penny stamps for a badge, but no address. Was it Cousin B i«il ? Please answer, and I will send the badge at once.—Cousin Kate.
