Dear Bee, July 13. On Monday evening a MUSICAL MEETING of the Ladies’ Savage Chib was held at Mrs Macassey's (Heriot Row). Mrs Sinclair Thomson was Chairwoman for the evening, and the programme was prettily painted by Mrs Woodhouse. On Tuesday evening, Mrs Arthur Fulton (Lees-street), gave a SMALL DANCE for Miss Thelblack (Milton), who is at present staying with her. On Thursday afternoon Miss Cutten (Belmont) gave a LARGE GIRLS’ AFTERNOON TEA for Miss Mendelsohn (Temuka), who is at present paying a visit to Mrs Cutten. The, table was very pretty with primulas and red chrysanthemums. The musical items were contributed by Misses Mendelsohn, Roberts, L. Roberts. S. Graham, Charlton (Auckland). Shand, and Greenwood. The other guests were Mesdames Cargill. Ogston, Fred Cutten, Finch, Campbell. Johnson. Harte, Webster. Misses Ramsay. Mendelson. Haggitt, Denyon, Graham, L. Macassey, Roberts. Neill. R. Neill. Reynolds. Webster, Gibson, Bathgate, Shand. Maitland. Whitney (Auckland), Busk, Batchelor, Bartieman, Cargill, Roberts, Maclaren, Sise, Greenwood, and others. On Friday night the annual OTAGO UNIVERSITY STUDENT BALL was held in the Garrison Hall. The decorations for the ball were simply splendid, consisting of flagsand greenery interspersed with lanterns, silver balls, fans etc., all helping to make the general effect most excellent. Good music was supplied by Robertshaw’s band, and the floor was also in perfect condition. The suppertable looked very pretty with large pots of ferns and palms draped with red creponne paper in honour of the Canterbury footballers’ club, who played against Otago this week. Red and white camellias were placed about the table, and looked very pretty, and football banners of the Canterbury and Otago teams were hung up in the centre of the stage. The Committee worked exceedingly well, and deserve much praise, as they so gieitly added to the success of the ball. Shand, white brocade with heavy lace; Miss L.
