Dear Bee, February 19. On Monday Mrs Reynolds (Monticello) had her usual afternoon ‘AT HOME.' Being a very fine day, a good number of ladies and gentlemen turned up. Delicious afternoon tea and various fruits were dispensed out on the lawn under some shady trees, and croquet was played all afternoon. Those I recollect were Mrs Reynolds, black grenadine trimmed with terracotta silk and jet; Mrs Gunn (Melbourne), grey tailor-made tweed with facings of moire silk; Mrs Perston, black costume; Mrs Perston (jun.), fawn tweed, stylish black bonnet with sprays of pink geranium; Mrs Leslie Reynolds, grey cashmere trimmed with passementerie, , small toque to match; Mrs Randal MacDonald (Christchurch), fawn costume trimmed with brown: Mrs H. Le Cren, blue serge costume, black straw hat with yellow flowers; Mrs Jack Wright, pale blue corded silk, trimmed with white insertion, large black lace hat; Mrs Denniston, black costume, heliotrope bow; Miss Reynolds, fawn checked tweed, large black hat; Miss R. [BY TELEGRAPH.] On Friday, 22nd Mrs Henry McKenzie (Christchurch) asked a number of people to a GARDEN PARTY, but owing to the inclemency of the weather very few turned up. On the evening of the same day, a LARGE RACE BALL was held in the Choral Hall. The decorations of the hall consisted of mirrors, pictures, flags, pot plants and greenery of all descriptions. The stage was made into a pretty drawing-room for the benefit of the chaperones. Heavy curtains draped to represent arbours, made the hall very cosy. There was an abundance of pink and white tiger lilies on the supper table with charming effect. Delicious ices were served in the side room, and were very much appreciated by everyone. On Wednesday, 20th, CUP DAY. a great number of ladies and gentlemen took advantage of the fine weather and went to Forbury to see the Cup run. The early part of the day the weather looked doubtful, but before 12 o’clock it turned out bright and sunny. Some very pretty dresses were worn. Webster, green cloth, large green satin sleeves, velvet toque to match; Miss Backhouse, bright blue serge, large black hat with pale blue trimmings: Miss Dibbs (Sydney), fawn tailor-made costume, electric blue cloth waistcoat, black lace hat with pink flowers; Miss Williams, navy blue serge, white silk waistcoat; her sister was also attired in navy blue; Miss Bick, black skirtand jacket,dainty bluebonnet; Miss Cargill, fawn canvas cloth, jet trimmings; Miss Gilkison. black serge, pink vest; Miss Isaacs (Auckland), black serge costume: Miss Gibson, black serge and vest of old-fashioned silk; Miss Graham, grey tweed, pink bodice trimmed with lace, black hat. white feather; Miss Moffat (Invercargill), black and green costume; Miss Handyside (Wellington), light fawn trimmed with green silk; Miss Roberts, black tailor dress trimmed with hsliotrope. On Thursday evening Mrs (Judge) Williams (Anderson’s Bay) gave a DINNER PARTY The table was decorated with blaze bowls of nasturtiums, and a handsome Indian centre piece. The white cloth was embroidered in gold. Those present were Judge and Mrs Williams, the Misses Williams, Mr and Mrs Pat Campbell. Mr and Mrs Mackenzie, Mr and Mrs Mills.
