THE LATEST FAD.
At last the fad’s discovered, ’mongst the many that have
come. That’s sure to bring the social world to the millennium. Politeness is the fashion ; brntal epigram they say. This season to fine conrtesy mnst yield the right of way. No more the upper-tendom is to score tbe lower ten. The meek can put his head inside the social lion’s den Without a fear that he’ll receive an insult dire and deep, And they that run will recognize the many ones that creep. The wealthy to each other will uplift their silken hats. And Mrs This will never sneer when she’s at Mrs That’s. No bachelor will tweak, this year, another fellow’s nose Because that other fellow treads upon his tender toes.
There’ll be no gosssip—for, of course, mere gossip’s not polite; And stupid girls will have a chance as well as maidens bright. For with politeness de rigueur, and rndeness in exile. The bright girl with her bright remarks will be quite out of style.
So let us hail with joy the fad whose star is on the rise. It is a fad that no one can consistently despise. But, oh, what weary lessons in the day and in the night Mnst some of the Font Hundred take to learn to be polite I
