DANEVIRKE.

Dear Bee, October 13. Cupid whispers there are several weddings and engagements shortly to announce. The COSTUME CONCERT came off last night and was a very successful one, all the singers being in capital voice. Each lady and gentleman singer represented the following: Miss Mitchell (Britannia), Miss Brophy (Italy), Miss Kimbell (Spain). Miss Henderson (New Zealand). Miss Rodman (Ireland). Messrs C Rayner and Campbell Soldiers). Mr Bartlett (Mexico), Mr C. Thomson (English Sailor), Mr Chadwick (China), Messrs Jensen and Duff (Africa), and Mr Armstrong (Ireland). The great and talented actor, Walter Bentley, is favouring us with a visit on Tuesday 16th, playing ‘ The Silence of Dean Maitland.’ We have been enjoying LOVELY WEATHER lately, having to abandon our furs and appear in summer attire. All the shop windows look quite dazzling with pretty spring goods, and I saw some lovely Paris hats and bonnets; in fact, everything is looking its best, gardens, etc. Our bush, which is only a quarter of a mile from the township, is simply lovely—the beautiful foliage and ferns, with running streams here and there, make us feel we are in fairyland. lam sorry to say in a few years it will be a thing of the past, as the woodman’s axe is making great havoc amongst the =cenery. There is some promise of a pnblic Tennis Club. We have two private courts, and the game was most enjoyable last season. The first game of the cricket season was played here on Wednesday.

Britannia.
