Dear Bee, September 14. The event of the week has been A LARGE BALL, which was given by Mr and Mrs G. P. Donnelly at their charming country residence, ‘Cressoge,’ to the people who generally frequent the hunt. A bye meet wax fixed, but Jupiter Pluvius was very unkind. However, in spite of the pouring rain and driving sleet, a number of enthusiasts turned up, amongst them being Miss Lala Miller and Miss Reynolds from Gisborne Mr Guy Cooper, of Tomoana received a nasty fall. However to return to the ball. lam told that the room, which was built’expressly for this dance, was most profusely decorated with ferns, greenery and flowers, and ornamented further with hundreds of Chinese lanterns, fairy lamps and flags. Donnelly, who wore an elegant gown of rich black silk, her diamonds were much admired; Miss Maud Donnelly who has returned from Wellington for the holidays, looked beautiful in a rich pink silk gown ; Misses Claudia and Maud Shaw nieces of Mr and Mrs George Donnelly, wore heliotrope and eau-de-nil silks, respectively. The honour of belle was allotted as usual when that young lady is present, to Miss Cara Russell who shewed to great advantage. Her fiance, Co onel Fox. was also present. The Misses Lowry, Williams, Nelson. Miller, Russell Maclean, Grace (Wellington). Reynolds (Gisborne). (Beeson * Ormond, Inglis. All wore charmed with the fairy-like aspect of the ballroom, and one and all thoroughly enjoyed the outing. Among those who went were Mesdames Hood and Ormond, the Misses Spencer Troutbeck Wood, White. Winter, Nelson, Russell.
