WELLINGTON-AUCKLAND MATCH. "V~T must be admitted that in his sketches of this match jl the artist, being on this occasion an Aucklander, has put affairs -so far as the weather was concerned —in a decidedly favourable light. When this was pointed ont by the editor, he was reminded by the artist that though the majoiity of the match was played 'midst hail, rain, thunder and lightning, yet dnring the first ten minutes’ play the snn shone brilliantly, and did so again on at least two brief occasions in the afternoon. * Wby should I give the place away to strangers?’ he queried. You can’t argue with a patriot of his stamp, and it is certainly true there were one or two intervals in the deluge. The gate, too . But let that pass. A CORRECTION. We have received the following letter, and are glad by publishing it to correct an error. Our correspondent says : —• In looking at your issue of Ist instant yesterday I noticed at page 199 a very good reprodnction of a first-class photograph of Standish and Preece’s, of Christchurch. It consists of a group of the golfers present at the Championship Tournament in July at Christchurch. 1 observe you have put underneath the group the information that it represents the Christchurch Golf Club. This is quite a mistake, and you will oblige if you will rectify the matter in your next issue. Out of twenty-nine players there are seventeen belong to the Ota>o Golf Club (Dunedin), four to the Hutt Golf Club (Wellington), one to the North Otago Golt Club (Oamaru), and the remaining seven belong to the Christchuich Golf Club.’ We thank this correspondent for the kindly and courteous offer at the end of his letter which is not published for lack of space.

The picture given of the lady champion Golf player of New Zealand and a group of the ladies who foregathered in Christchurch on that occasion will doubtless interest Golfing readers. No further allusion need be made to the tournament. That subject is pretty well talked and written out.
