Dear Bee, August 15. A very enjoyable LITTLE DANCE was given by Mr and Mrs Wright at their residence. Auckland Point, last week. It was intended for the younger members of the family, but there was also a fair sprinkling of the eiders present. Dancing was kept up with spirit until a late or rather early hour in the morning, and it is hardly necessary to say all present enjoyed t hemselves immensely. The supper was a great feat ure of the evening, being of the most rrcAerr/ir description. Mrs Wright received her guests in rich black silk and lace ; Miss Wright wore black velvet with green velvet sleeves and berthe; Miss Julia Wright, cream veiling with bronze velvet sleeves; Miss Gwen Wright, rose pink veiling; Miss Heaps, pretty pink veiling; Miss Preshaw. pink with red velvet sleeves; Miss Moore, pale blue; Miss K. Dnncan. soft white silk; Miss M. Preshaw, yellow and brown ; Misses Cachenaille (two), Houlker, Harris,Tennant, Peerless, Howley, Corrigan, Edwards, Messrs Wright (two), Levien (two), Corrigan, Tomlinson, Mackay, Woodward and a number of College boys. The formal opening of the NEW CENTRAL SCHOOL took place on Monday afternoon. There were quite a number of c itizens present, including the Bishop of Nelson and Mrs Mules, the Mayor and Mrs Trask. Judge and Mrs Robinson, Messrs Fell, Sharp, and the Revs. J H. Mackenzie. Evans. Kempthorne. Bond, and several of the city councillors. Owing to Mr Graham, M.H R., being unable to leave Wellington, the opening ceremony was performed by the Mayor (Mr Trask), others speaking being the acting chairman of the Town School Committee, the Rev. J. H. Mackenzie, the Bishop of Nelson, and Messrs Fell, Sharp, and Talbot. Die MASONIC BALL, owing to the prevailing epidemic of influenza, has been postponed until some time next month. The Football Dance, however, comes off on Friday and promises to be an immense success. OUR PEOPLE. Mr Graham Vining, the organist of the Cathedral here, has gone to the Empire City for a well deserved holiday. Miss Munro, of Blenheim, is at present in Nelson, the guest of Mrs Roger Kingdom Yet another PROGRESSIVE EUCHRE to record, this time at Mrs Roger Kingdon’s. and a very pleasant time was spent by all lucky enough to be asked. Thegames were kept up with much spirit until about half-past ten, after which a most delicious and dainty supper was discussed. The players were Mr and Mrs Kinsrdon. Mr and Mrs Thornton, Dr. and Mrs Roberts, Mr and Mrs Theodore Glasgow. Mr and Mrs L. Adams, Mrs Bunny, Miss Pitt, Miss Munro (Blenheim). MissC. Jones, Miss Porter. Messrs Pearce. E. Mackay, Lunn. Wither, and Lewis. The first prizes fell to Mrs Thornton and Mr L. Adams, the boobies being Mrs Roberts and Mr E. Mackay.
