AQUATICS IN DUNEDIN.

THE NORTH-END BOATING CLUB. THIS club was established in 1892, and is therefore yet in its infancy, but despite this fact, the success of its crews has been very encouraging, and it is anticipated that next season the North end Club will be one of the strongest rowing associations in the colony. During the past few years rowing in Dunedin has made wonderfully rapid progress, and there is evidently a big boom in aquatics in Dunedin. The North end Club was established in October, 1892, Messrs Higgins, Me. Kenzie, and Mclnnes being mainly instrumental in effecting itsformation. The first President elected was Mr S. S. Myers, a gentleman well known in Dunedin as an ardent supporter of all athletics. Mr A. Binnie (who was one of Victoria’s representatives in the Interprovincial Eight-oared Race) was elected captain and coach, Mr G. Lindsay deputy captain, and Messrs W. Mclnnes and S. Dixon secretary and treasurer, respectively. During their first season the Club representatives were unsuccessful, but they practised steadily, and this (with the valuable assistance given by their experienced captain, who unfortunately for the Club, left Dunedin in 1893) gradually brought them into a state of proficiency. At the Port Chalmers regatta the Club was represented in three races, and succeeded in securing two firsts and a second, the crew in our illustration winning the Maiden Fonrs, while Messrs Gloag and Goodall (stroke) won the Junior Pairs. This year the Club were distinctly successful, winning the Maiden Fours at the Yacht Club Regatta, Dunedin ; Maiden Fours at the Otago Rowing Association Regatta, Port Chalmers ; and Junior Fours and Junior Pairs at the same regatta. The club intend building a much larger shed than the one at present in use, and will probably be represented in the outrigger events at the

inter colonial regatta. The office-bearers at present are : — President, Mr S. S. Myers ; vice-presidents, Dr. Close, Messrs J. Duthie and C. R. Chapman ; captain, Mr M. Higgins; deputy-captain, Mr J. M’Kenzie ; committee : Messrs W. Wells, J. Mills, D. Finnegan, D. Murchison, J. Breen, M. Maloney. J. Gloag ; hon. secretary, Mr W. M’lnnes ; hon. treasurer, Mr S. Dixon ; auditors, Messrs J. Donald and A. Fogs; delegates to Otago Rowing Association : Messrs M. Higgins and W. M’lnnes. Our illustration is from a photo by Mr W. Frost, Dunedin.
