THE WORK CORNER.

NEW DESIGNS IN FANCY WORK, This week there is an exceedingly pretty design for a blotting pad, useful for either a table or for resting on the knee, which latter has become a favourite position for writing of late years, and exceedingly conducive to round shoulders it is ! An eighteen inch square of strong pasteboard is the first requirement for its manufacture ; this should be neatly covered first with thin flannel and then with pale blue cloth. The corner pieces, whereby the blotting paper is held in place, must then be embroidered, a

coarse make of embroidery silk being used. In a corner of the sketch will be found a very pretty design for this purpose. The flowers are of white cloth applique edged with yellow silk. A grey-green tint is used for the leaves, the stems being shaded with reddy-brown, and all the colours are blended in the fanciful braid which hides all the small tacks used in putting it together.
