Dear Bee, March 5 Last Friday Mr and Mrs Conolly gave anothei of their delightful TENNIS AFTERNOONS. The afternoon was lovely and the court in perfect order, so that in spite of the heat play was kept up indefatigably all the time. The garden was, as usual, a picture, and the velvety turf and gay flower beds and borders all came in for their share of admiration. The tea tables were placed in a shady corner of the lawn, and the tempting variety of cakes and sweeties were done full justice to. Mrs Conolly wore a cream striped lustre gown with small sprays of pink flowers, becoming shoulder capo of white lace, white hat with feathers; Mrs J. Mowat, cream silk blouse, dark skirt, cream feather hat; Mrs T. Mowat was looking very pretty in a becoming black costume: Mrs Kellas (Greymouth) was most becomingly gowned in fawn, well and stylishly made, with bands of coloured passementerie, and one of the new basque frills, pretty black hat with feathers ; Mrs Cleghorn, white muslin Kown with bands of insertion, coral pink tie. becoming shaded rown straw’ hat with handsome feathers ; Miss Speed (Picton). heliotrope gown with guipure, burnt straw sailor hat; Mrs
Crocker, tweed skirt, green and white rainbow ervpon blouse, be coming hat; Mrs Greenfield, well-made fawn tweed with braid, cream hat with big daisies ; Miss Ruddenklau (Christchurch), in navy serge skirt and coat over cream sdk blouse, white hat; Miss Horton. n»vy and old gold shot skirt and ziuave over blouse, burnt straw sailor hat ; Miss Bessie Smith, fawn dress with frills, h<t to m itch : Miss Huddleston, flowered delaine dress, white hat; Mesdames Mclntire, Smith. Ferguson. Orr. Snodgrass Lucas. Mclntosh, C. Earp, Crawshiw. Howard, R >binson. A. Farmar, and Misses Weber. Pasley, Ferguson. Farmar, and Messrs Tesch maker. Rutherford (Pieton), Snodgrass. Lucas, Mclntosh. Crawshaw, E. Pasley. E Griffiths, E. Conolly. Wytchell. W. Carey. S. Hodson, etc., etc... were also present. Towards the close of the afternoon great amusement was caused by the sudden appearance on the lawn of a photographer, asking permission to take a group of the guests, which was done ainid much laughter. Mr and Mrs W. McLean left that afternoon for Wellington, about a week before everyone expected, and. therefore, they had no time to say good*bye to many of their friends here. V\ e are sorrj’ to lose them, but glad of their promotion. There were a great many people at the Tennis Club on Saturday. and there was some spirited playing in preparation for the coming Club handicap tournaments next Saturday. There was a nice tea brought by different lady members, and a very pleasant afternoon was spent. Sincerity.
