I have just arrived at the conclusion that we are m a chronic state of coining to the end of things, having just been to the last of the Orchestral Society’s concerts for the season. The Musical Society are in a flutter over the * Messiah,’ which is to be given in the Cathedral again this year, their last concert of the season, and ‘ to be or not to be ’ amalgamated is the question, and now in only a few short weeks comes the end of the year, so everything just now seems fleeting away. The AFTERNOON RECEPTION BY THE COUNTESS OF GLASGOW was very numerously attended. Amongst those present were Mrs Hunter-Blair, who looked very bright and pretty in a cream with double skirt edged to with deep yellow covered with lace, cream hat and feathers; Mrs O’Rorke. rich black silk trimmed with bands of ecru lace, pretty hat, feather boa; Mrs Rhodes, handsome black costume, violets in her bonnet; Mrs Palmer, rich black costume; Mrs Lee, blue and white crepon, lace trimmed ; Mrs M. Campbell, black silk, white vest, and putts veiled with lace; Miss Campbell, shot pink and green trimmed with black lace insertion (very becoming); Miss Hutton, drill costume, pretty brown hat; the Misses Greenwood, in mourning; Miss Peacock, black costume ; Mrs H. H. Cooke, very becoming grey and pink gown, bonnet to match ; Mrs Jennings, pretty shot heliotrope and green gown, silk trimmings, floral hat; Mrs Gibbs, black grenadine trimmed with eau-de-nil silk veiled with black lace, jet bonnet; Mr, Mrs. and the Misses Wynn-Williams, Mr and Mrs Farley, Mrs Kimbell. Mrs Turrel, Mrs C. Cook, Miss Hitchings (Napier), Mrs Aitken, Miss Mcßae (Wellington); Mrs Pyne looked well in black with pink bands covered with black lace: Miss Ida Johnston (Wellington), lovely gown of pink spotted gauze over pink, hat to correspond ; Dr and Mrs Mickle, Mrs and Miss Graham, the Misses May, Webb, Hargreaves, Campbell, Mrs Hoare, Mrs W. P. Reeves. Mrs Studholme. Mrs M. Izard, Mrs W. Ollivier, Mr and Mrs Bevan-Brown. Mrs Wallace, Mrs Wilding, Mrs H. Rhodes, Mrs Alister Clark, Mrs Westmacott, and many others. THE ORCHESTRAL CONCERT. Mr Wallace and the orchestra are alike to be congratulated on such a succe-sful performance. Mrs Francis-Anderson sang charmingly, and looked very pretty in white brocade with bebe bodice, and square cut train, and white lace flounce across the front of the skirt w’ith pink roses in her hair and on the bodice. Among the numerous audience were Judge and Mrs Denniston, the latter in black evening dress and pink cloak; Mrs W. 1). Meares, S retty evening dress, long brown cloth and plush cloak; Miss leares, grey silk trimmed with black lace ; the Misses W. and N. Meares, white, withjwhite feather fans; Mrs Westmacott. in cream dress ; Mrs Wilding, black, and electric blue cloak ; Mrs F. M. Wallace, black lace over grey silk ; Professor and Mrs Cook, the latter looking very nice in pale pink with cardinal plush cloak ; Mrs Harley, very handsome heliotrope silk with gold passementerie; Mrs Jennings looked very pretty in pale pink silk trimmed with white lace ; Mrs I. Gibbs, terra-cotta corded silk, and velvet peacock cloak with feather trimming ; Mrs W. Wilson looked well in electric blue : Mademoiselle Pasquiere,black evening dress with white lace and spray of roses on the bodice ; Mrs Burns, black eveningdress trimmed with jet: Miss Wood, black dress with rose pink silk trimmings; Miss Fairhurst, all black; Miss Hargreaves, black, with old gold plush puff sleeves and berthe ; Miss C. Hargreaves, pale blue; Mrs R. Wood, black; Mrs A. Anderson,pale blue and terra-cotta silk with lace shoulder frill; Mrs Millton, black with white lace; Mrs Robb, black velvet, the bodice trimmed with handsome white lace; Miss WynnWilliams, black, her sister, pale blue: Miss Reeves, black and tan ; Miss May Wilson, pale pink striped silk triinmed with white lace ; Miss Wilson, black, yellow puffed sleeves and yoke veiled with black lace: Mrs R. Macdonald, black evening dress ; Miss Anderson, pretty buttercup colour frock; Miss N. Reeves, all black ; Mrs Kimbell, Mr and Mrs Graham, Miss Webb, Mrs Stratton. Mr and Mrs Barkas, the Hon.
