The second of the series of CHAMBER CONCERTS was given in the Bowen-street Hall by Messrs Trimnell and Parker to a crow ded audience, among whom were Lord and Lady Glasgow, the latter wearing a handsome carnation-coloured satin gown, the petticoat of which w r as veiled with black net embroidered with jet. and the bodice, high collar, and Watteau train were trimmed with jet and black ribbons, and she wore a long, dull blue cloth cloak bound with goat fur; the Ladies Augusta, Alice and Dorothy Boyle all w-ore pretty white embroidered frocks and claret cloaks. Col. Boyle accompanied them. Others present were Mrs Baker, in a black jetted gown ; Mrs Mantell, in black, and white fichu ; Mrs Mantell (jun.), black, and pretty white fur cloak; Mrs W. Johnston, black brocade, trimmed with white lace and roses, and crimson plush cloak; the Misses Johnston, black velvet and white lace, and white cloaks; Mrs Parker, a handsome pale blue brocade, trained and trimmed with white lace; Mrs Sprott. black velvet edged with white feathers; Miss Swainson, black velvet and jet; Mrs E J. Kennedy, Pickering, Morrah, Barnett, and Mesdames Webb, James, Hawthorne, Ward, etc. HUTT BALL. Ten ladies—Lady Hector and Mesdames Riddiford, Beattie, Fitzherbert, Scales, Whitehead, Wilford. Jackson, Treadwell, and Purdy—belonging to the Hutt combined and gave a very enjoyable ball at the new hall at the Hutt. The decorations were beautiful, the stage being furnished as a drawing-room. King’s Band supplied the music. The supper was excellent and prettily served, and the floor good. Mrs Purdy made a capital secretary ; she wore a pretty silver-grey costume, trained ; Mrs T. Wilford, handsome red and black shot silk ; Mrs Burnett, black, trained ; Mrs Beattie, green velvet and yellow silk ; Mrs Treadwell, pink silk, trained ; Mrs Colbeck, greenish grey; Mrs Eberle, black ; Miss Jackson, pretty mauve gown with velvet sleeves, heliotrope bouquet; Miss Mowbray wore black ; her sister a white Empire gown ; Miss Wilford, pink, with large white butterfly bows on the skirt, her sister, white ; Miss Hodgkins (Dunedin), pale blue; Miss Cooper, white ; Miss Burnett, black ; her sister wore white with yellow Empire sash ; Miss Bodmin, white ; Miss Marchant, white net. There were also Mesdames Whitehead, Riddiford.
