NAPIER.
Dear Bee, June 15. For ever so long we have been looking forward to MRS CARLILE’S DANCE, an account of which will be found in ‘Topics.’ Of the married ladies present I noticed Mesdames Sydney Johnston (Takapau), Bowen, Von Dadelzcn. Kettle, Logan. Gordon, Tyler, Willie Carlile 1 Woodville), etc. Mrs Sydney Johnston wore an exceedingly handsome gown, and looked very well indeed. The dress was green brocaded silk shot with gold, bright scarlet velvet sleeves; Mrs James Carlile wore a very handsome pink silk gown, her slippers were the admiration of the room, being of gold material which shone and sparkled beautifully : Mrs Willie Carlile looked very nice in a pretty pink gown ; Mrs Bowen looked very well in brown dress touched up with blue *a qu tint go*n); Mrs Kettle wore a very handsome pale green silk gown: Mrs Logan, white silk; Mrs Gordon (Clifton), handsome white silk gown; Mrs Tyler, pink : Mrs Von Dadelzcn. pink. Of the gir’s it was very hard to pick the belle, in fact, I dare not do it : but I must say that the Misses Logan. Lascelles, Sydney Johnston, Cornford, Hawke and Williams, all looked extremely well. Miss Logan wore a very becoming pale pink gown, elegantly made, and as usual donned an exceedingly pretty under skirt ; Miss Lascelks’ gown was very handsome: it consisted of heliotrope brocaded silk with slight trimmings of heliotrope velvet, shoesand fan to match ; Miss Williams, very pretty white silk gown; Miss Hawke, pale blue gown (very becoming) ; Miss Cornford looked very fresh and pretty in pure white surah : Miss Heath's gown was pretty—pink silk-with green velvet sleeves; Miss Inglis, blue gown, with blue velvet sleeves ; Miss Johnston, handsome yellow surah gown; Miss Nelson (Tomoana l . cream silk under-skirt with over-skirt of green spangled net, large sleeves; Miss Chapman, white gown, with three frills up skirt; Miss Ditchings. old gold and cream gown with Watteau back, front laced loosely over brown velvet, large brown velvet sleeves (very quaint and pretty gown); Miss Lowry, black gown : Miss Hewson, pink gown, with pink band round waist, and pink shoulder bows; Miss Rhodes wore pink: Miss Shaw, white silk ; Miss Tuke. cream ; Miss Baker, pretty white gown ; Miss Rees, pink gown touched up with green ; Miss Cotterill, black. I really can’t remember all the other gowns. I was glad to see Miss looking very well indeed. Some of the gentlemen were Messrs E. H. Williams, H. B. Williams (Hastings). Gooch. Sayers. Robison (Waipawa). Stewart. Bridge (Waipawa>, Shaw. Warren (Tomoana), Fenwicke (Tomoana), F. Nelson (Tomoana). Tolhurst (Wellington), Ted Ree-», Kettle. Logan. Fawkner. Dasenr. Hughes. Rhodes. Bowen. Gordon, and several others. I daresay I have left out a few pretty gowns, but I can’t help it. Bee. as I was dancing all the time, and really it is hard to remember everything worn at a dance, so I trust I shall be pardoned by my fair friends if I have neglected to mention them. At the dance several of the girls adopted THE ‘BLN.’ I didn’t like it. and think those who coiled the hair certainly carried oft the honours of the coiffeur. The ‘bun ’ puts ten years on to a girl's age. PERSONALIA. Mrs Ewen and family are staying with Mrs Sutton for a time. Mrs Ewen is looking so well. Mrs Willie Boyle has been stopping with Mrs Rawlinson. Mrs Hamlin being still away in Auckland I hear she has been enjoying the trip immensely. She and Miss Hamlin purpose returning home very shortly. Mr and Mrs Douglas McLean are spending a few days at their town residence. Mrs McLean looks exceedingly nice in black gown, long black cloak, and large black hat.
Gladys.
