The large schoolroom was beautifully decorated with flowers and greenery, the work of the girls’ willing hands. A large wreath stretching across one end of the room w as specially admired. A very good programme was gone through. One of the prettiest items was the song ‘The Japanese Fan,’ which w’as sung by Misses Cashel, M. Law, and K. Thompson, in Japanese costume. The various movements with the fans were particularly graceful. Miss Aubin’s song was much appreciated, as was also a duet by Misses Soppett and Davies. Some of the violin and ’cello selections by Misses K. McMillan, Lennox, Law, Cameron, and Garrett were really lovely. The Misses Law gave one of their charming duets, Spanish Dances by Moszkowski. Misses *1 hoinpson, Cameron, Cashel, and Mains gave pianoforte pieces, which were played with great expression and execution, and did great credit to the careful tuition or their teacher. Miss Law. A reading by Miss Annie Garrett was given with much expression and verve. The last item on the programme was a cantala, ’ Cinderella,’ by the pupils under the conductorship of Mr Cranwell, the singing master, and was splendidly sung. The reading that came in <iuring the piece were given by Miss Alice Morrin, who read very well indeed. All the girls looked very pretty in their bright dresses and happy faces, and each went through her part without a hitch, which must have been very gratifying to the
principal, Mrs law. The concert closed at ten o’clock with the National Anthem. There was a large audience of parents and friends of the pupils, who all thought it had been a delightful entertainment. Mrs Law has been very sorry to hear that a report has been circulated that she intended closing her school at the end of the year. She has no intention whatever of doing so, and regrets very much that such statements should have been spread aboard, having no foundation. Some of the ladies present were : Mrs Bodie, Mrs Thompson.
