HUNTING.
Pakuranga hounds met this week at Panmure I Bridge. Four drags were laid—one round Panmure,
the second through Sylvia Paik, where the jumps are very stiff; the third was round Mount Smart, the fourth through Penrose to the Royal Oak, Onehunga. Miss Percival was the only lady who followed through all. The Misses Buckland and McLaughlin followed thelirsttwo. Theformer had a nasty fall, but the horse and rider got up unhurt. Mr Cleveland came to grief on the road, and hurt his face dreadfully. Amongst those present riding were Col. Daws, n and sons, Mr and Miss Percival, Mr and Miss Dunnett, Mr and Miss McLaughlin, Messrs Tonks (two), Garrett, Stewart, Isaacs, Gilmore, Bloomfield, Ware, Hanna, Lieut. Baird, Dr. Collins, etc. Driving weie Mr and Mrs Cottle and Misses Rookes and Bursil ; Mrs Bilborough and Mrs Bright ; Mr Mackellar and the Misses Scherff; Mr Crombie and Mrs Walker, Miss and Mrs Ireland and Miss Walker ; Mr Philson and Mrs Buddle; Mi Buddle and Mrs HopeLewis ; Dr. ami Mrs Dawson ; Mr and Mrs Buckland ; Mr and Mrs McLaughlin: Mrs Mahoney, Misses Atkinson and Miss Marks ; the Misses Firth.
The last meet of the Wairarapa Hunt Club was held recently at Pihantea, the station of the Messrs Bidwell. The weather was glorious, and both huntsmen and onlookers enjoyed themselves immensely. About one hundred ami fifty guests were entertained at luncheon by the Bidwell Brothers, after which a smart run took place. The hounds, under Huntsman Roake and Mr J. Hughes, the whip, were conveyed to Featherston from Wellington the day before. About twenty riders took part, including several ladies. Mr Wyvern Williams got a nasty fall ; he was riding Timothy. Mr Joe II uglies also fell. The jumping and riding generally were excellent. Amongst those present were Mrs Hutton, Miss E. Barton, Miss Hume, Mrs Vallance, Miss Cameron, Miss Rhodes, Mr Louis Pharazyn, Mr Coleman Phillips, Mr C. Elgar, Mr F. Pearce, Mr J. Martin, Mr Tully, Mr Vennell, Mr McKenzie, Mr Hume, Mr Vallance, Mr Heyward, Mr Orbell, Mr Mclntosh, etc.
