CHILDREN’S CORRESPONDENCE COLUMN.
Dear Cousin Kate. —It is quite a long time since I wrote to you. One of our cats, called Fitz, killed one of my dear little pigeons about a week ago. We live near the sea, and among the many pretty things I have collected on the beach I have a sea-horse, but one of the cats ate half of it, so I keep it in a little box where they cannot get it. My brother and I each have saddles, and often go out riding with papa. I have a nice parrot, but it cannot say anything but ‘ Pretty Cocky !’ lam so fond of pets, and have got a great number. I must now conclude. —Your loving cousin, Minnie Maclean. Gisborne. p. S.—Would you mind, please, to give me names for two kittens ? [I am very pleased to hear from you again. Will you send me your photograph to put in the Graphic? How would some of these names suit for the two kittens ? Poll and Noll, Cherry and Plum, Box and Cox, Robert and Roberta, or Bobby and Robby, the Brownies, Bun and Fun. - Cousin Kate ] Dear Cousin Kate.—l have two cats. On Friday night one of them caught a rat. The rat was coming across the floor when the cat pounced on it. I have five guinea pigs ; many a chase after them have I had when they got out. Thank you for thinking about my likeness in the Graphic. I was nine years old last February. lam in the Fourth Standard at St. John’s College. We gave an acting entertainment in the Remuera Hall. I was there and thought it very good. We had the Merchant of Venice, and some”music, and last, Billy Doo, a farce. I will tell you some of the actors. Mr Bruce, Shylock ; Mr Elmsley, Merchant of Venice; Master Fred Dawson, Bassanio ; Master Eric Robertson, Duke of Venice ; Master George Hardy, Portia. I thought the boys acted splendidly.— Yours truly, Reginald W. Cottle, Remuera. [Thank you about the photograph. I daresay before you see this I shall have it. 1 am sure you like being at St. John’s College. You are high up for your age. It is good of you to write when you must be so busy. The entertainment was excellent. Write again soon.—Cousin Kate ]
