DUNEDIN.
Dear Bee, May 30. I have little society news proper this week, but hope to give more in my next letter. An entertainment by the Ohio Minstrel Troupe was given in the Foresters’ Hall, Port Chalmers, in aid of the funds of the Mechanics' Institute. Mr J. R. Monson, the President, made a short speech. The songs were contributed by Messrs Spend ler, and God - ward, and the finale was the American National Guards. Mr Hanlon, ami Mr Swan gave ‘Courting in the Bright Moonlight Mr Irvine contributed ‘Up to Date Messrs Blundell and Flint, a mandoline and guitar duet. Two clog dances were given by Mr M'Carthy, and a sailor’s hornpipe by Mr Stewart. The entertainment closed with the farce of * Ginger,’ Mr S. Patton acting as stage manager, Mr A. Yates conducting. OAMARU BAZAAR. At the bazaar in aid of St. Patrick’s, Oamaru, the weather was all that could be desired. The stalls, six in number, were presided over by 1, Mrs Grant and Mrs O’Grady ; 2, Mrs Toohey and Mrs Wildermoth ; 3, Mrs Mullin and Mrs McCarthy ; 4, Mrs Wise, and Mrs Sewell ; 5. Mrs Beattie and Mrs T. Rogers ; 6, Mrs Bvrne and Mrs Power ; refreshment stall. Mis Ford and Mrs Haggie. The stalls were all well stocked with useful, expensive, and ornamental work. The assistants, about thirty-six in number, were all very prettily dressed in fancy costume. The proceedings were opened the first evening by a Grand March, in which all the young ladies took part. I can only give a few of the costumes. Miss Hamiug, Scotch Lassie ; Miss Martin (Dunedin), Gypsy ; Miss Maria McPhee, Prince Charlie; Miss Maggie MePnee, Flora McDonald; Miss Reid, Fatima; Miss F. OGrady, Italian Peasant; Miss Dooley, Erin; Miss Mary McPhee, Monte Carlo; Miss Nelson, Mary Queen of Scots ; Miss Toohey, Dorothy ; Miss Ford, Night ; Miss D. Ford, Snow Queen ; Miss Ring, Mirth ; Miss Carr, Red Ridina' Hood ; Miss A. Power, Mexican Gipsy ; Miss N. Donovan, Hornet ; Miss A. Maloney, Gipsy. In addition to these twelve fairies took up the rear of the March. The Oamaru Naval band played for the March, whilst Mr R. Thompson lent considerable assistance by his bagpipe music another evening. His Lord <hip the Bishop, Fit tiers Lynch, O'Donnell (Port), and Donnelly ( Palmerston), came up to attend the Bazaar on the opening night. A concert was given every evening, towards which Miss Haggie ami Mr Haggie ami Miss .Mary Morrison and Miss Kite M Honey (Dunedin), lent considerable aid. The children of the convent schools gave a performance every evening. On the whole Fathers McKay and Me Mu I lan have every reason to feel pleased. Miss Morrison's rich soprano voice was very much admired, and the Oamaru people hope she will soon pay their town another visit.
Maude.
