I. As passing by a jew’lry store, A gem she chanced to spy. And while she gazed upon the stone She drew her lover nigh. ‘ You promised me a diamond,’ She whispered on the quiet; ‘ Engagements come but once, you know, Dear George, Go Buy It.’ 11. A flood of thoughts came o’er him A memory winged in flight, To that sweet boor when, feelingly, He gave his solemn plight ; And did he do as he was bid, Responding to love’s fiat ? Why, certainly, he took her arm, And Went Right B y T it.
