THE CHRISTMAS CHICKEN.
In fair weather, Master Maurice lived the greater part of the day on a gravel heap between the house and the barn, where he can see all that goes on at either place. ‘ Maurice,’ asked his mother one December morning when he came to where she was sitting on the poren, * has Sarah killed a chicken for dinner ?’ ‘Yes. She’s tilled one : but she hasn’t dot it pared yet.’
