OX the Btb November, tbedirect steamer Dukeof Buckingham had a narrow escape by running on the rocks at Kaikonra This vessel is of 3,125 gross tonnage, and belongs to the Ducal Line. Her commander at the time was Captain Groombridge. She left Wellington on the afternoon of Saturday, and attended by thick weather accompanied with squalls of rain, proceeded down the coast. According to the statement of the captain nothing of an alarming nature happened until about 2 o'clock on Sunday morning, when the Duke of Buckingham struck upon Flint’s Keef, Kaikoura. After some four hours she floated off, and it was found possible to bring herdown to Lyttelton by the afternoon of Sunday, when she was overhauled. She is now in the Lyttelton Dock undergoing repairs, which it is estimated will occupy some six weeks. The Home cargo for Christchurch, and some flax and gum shipped at Wellington and Auckland was more or less damaged, as two of her fore compartments were filled with water.
