A SMART SCHOOLBOY.
A certain lady in the suburbs of Berlin had sent her young hopeful to spend the afternoon with some friends in another Cart of the town. Of course, as it was a bit of a party the oy was dressed in his best. But at the time he should return home the rain came down in torrents, and mamma was in terrible anxiety as to the drenching her son would have ; but telephones are plentiful and cabs arecheap in Berlin, so she telephoned to her friend to give the boy the sixpence for a cab (50 pfennig), and to her joy she was in time ; her friend soon answered back that she had got a cab and sent him off, and in less than half an hour he came rushing up the stairs, but drenched to the skin and streaming with water. • But,’ cried mamma, ‘ they said you were sent in a cab?’ ‘ Oh, yes, ma. But when I ride with you, you always make me get inside ; this time I rode on the box.’
