He was all through the Franco Prussian war. He was present at the battles of Worth and Sedan, the fall of'Metz, and the siege of Paris, and was under fire on many occasions. In the years 1872 3 he attended the great annual prize-firing competitions in Switzerland, the last year with some success. Became to Mew Zealand in 1874, landing at Wellington, and the first meeting there was his first success with the Maritini Henry rifle. Some time after this Mr Kruse came to Wanganui, and from 1885 up to the present time he has been most assiduous in practice, never missing an opportunity of putting in an apjearance at the range, and always shooting consistently and with accuracy in the different local company comjetitions. < >ne of his best performances of late, previous to attending Napier, was making a score one morn ins at long range equal to the possible on the Wimbledon target. He is very familiar with tire use of the Martini-H enry, having practised with it for eighteen months when in Africa, and in this respect he had an advantage over the other competitors at the recent meeting near Napier. Last year heattended the meeting at [hinedin. but as he had not been keeping up his practice he did not shoot so well as he has been doing lately.
