Hospital Day at Dunedin Hospital

The anniversary of Florence Nightingale's birthday was observed as Hospital Sunday at Knox Church, and the church was crowded. The Matron and Nursing Staff of the Hospital, and the nurses engaged m private nursing homes and private nursing, attended m large numbers ; also members of the Hospital Board. Dr. Thomson, Medical Superintendent, gave a short account of the

life and activities of Florence Nightingale, and especially the foundation of a school for nurses with the money subscribed by tlie gratitude of the nation after the Crimean War.

On the Saturday previous a very interesting and pleasing function was held at the Nurses' Home. A large gathering of lady visitors was present, and a num-

ber of nurses, past and present, and Dr. Thompson. Dr. Falconer and Dr. Riley. Among the nurses was Miss Williamson, who was the first Xew Zealand nurse to be decorated with the Royal \\cd Cross for her services m the Boer War.

Dr. Thompson drew attention to a pic-

ture on the wall — a photograph group of the Matron and staff of the Hospital 40 years ago, when the training school was first started.

Miss Tennent. the Matron, invited the visitors to pay a visit of inspection to the wards after partaking oi afternoon tea.
