Obituary
On Sunday, November 25, Sister Ruth Sanderson, late N.Z.A.N.S., passed away at the Hamilton Hospital. She had been ill for five years, and bore her long illness with great patience and submission. Sister Sanderson trained at the Waikato Hospital, and served during the Great War. She served on hospital ships and in France, and was mentioned in .despatches for her work. After her return, Sister Sanderson was on duty at Trentham and afterwards started a private hospital at Hamilton with Sister Hawkins.
The funeral service, conducted by Dean Barnett, was held at the Cathedral on the afternoon of Tuesday, November 27. About forty members of the Waikato Hospital nursing staff were present in uniform, while members of the medical staff and local medical men attended and acted as pallbearers.
Dean Barnett spoke briefly of Sister Sanderson's outstanding courage and unselfishness as shown not only during her years of active work, but equally during her years of ill-health.
The hymn "Abide With Me" was sung and at the close of the service the organist played the "Dead March."
The many beautiful flowers were some slight evidence of the affection in which Sister Sanderson was held by all who knew her. A.G.K.
We also regret to record the death last year of Nurse Annie Walshe, who, for the last ten years of her life, worked as a District Nurse under the St. John Ambulance Association in Wellington. She was trained at the Bendigo Hospital. Victoria. Her sister, Minnie Walshe, is now at Aitutaki. Cook Islands.
