Our Royal Visitors
During the tour of Their Royal Highnesses the Duke and Duchess of York through the Dominion, many of the exArmy Sisters had the opportunity of joining m their welcome. At Napier, at the reception were present Sisters Grant, Gilmer, Walker (2), Sheridan, Mcßeth, Hastie, Davie, Goldsmith, McLean and the Avar workers, Mesdames Large, Land and Brown, and Misses Thomson and Spence. The Duke shook hands with each, and later on the Duchess shook hands and chatted for a few minutes.
At Feilding Sister Chalmer was among those who greeted the visitors, and at
Palmerston North Misses Davies, Lloyd, Bur sill and other returned sisters were present. In another column is reported the laying- of the foundation stone of the Memorial Chapel to the nurses of the Christchurch Hospital who died m the war and m the great epidemic. In memory of the fallen, when passing the Bridge of Remembrance at Christchurch, after leaving the Hospital, the Duke laid a beautiful wreath at the base of the north column. He had expressed his wish to pay a tribute to the memory of those who fell m the war.
