The Baby's Autobiography
1 feel a loving arm — A mighty thirst is overcome. Warm, sweet fluid to me flows — With it niy resentment, goes. Purring — soothing warmth, Drift 1 into vistas lovely, Sleep and breathe a grand new way : x\ll is changed since break of day. And my blood coursing gently Finds new channels opened vp — Leaves the old arteriosus — Scorns the once-loved duct venosus. In lung cells now air's aeration — Ah, divine oxygenation ! Life is pleasant — peaceful sleep — Till my hunger becomes deep. Then m anger lest I grow not, My indignant larynx cries. And again life-giving wine Plows to make my tissues fine. Many times T drink the nectar, Many ounces I imbibe — Jolting scales, you say I've lost, My weight has gone — I J m all a ' frost ! ' But soon again that jolting iron Proclaims my adipose addition, Those blissful draughts of human milk Have stretched my skin of rose-pink silk. The energy that love inspires. The clean cool air that 1 inhale — The sun's warm rays that light my days Encourage all my quiet ways. But best of all the blissful sleep. In clean, dry blankets— warm and soft, Nature's way — with Mother's care — Make us goodly "Plunket ware." D. W.
