The inaugural meeting' of the Health Campaign Avas held before a crowded audience on 21st March, m the concertroom of the Toavii Hall, Wellington. The chair was occupied by the Hon. C. J. Parr (Minister of Health), and with him Avere Dr. Valintinc (Director-General of Health) and Dr. Truby-King (Director of the Division of Child AVelfare, Health Department). The Minister, m his opening address, pointed out the importance of the campaign to the country, and quoted figures from the Military Medical Board reports and the medical inspection of schools, showing the comparatively large number of physically-deficient adults and children m this country. Dr. Truby-King, m his lecture, spoke of the necessity of dispelling ignorance m regard to the health of the community we live m, and said, m referring to women, he had always been impressed with the
great desire on their part to obtain knowledge with regard to the primary essentials of health and life generally. In speaking on the relative value of food, Dr. King urged that everyone should have a rough idea of the food values of staple articles of diet, and suggested that a weekly or monthly column should be run m the newspapers showing how much could be purchased for a shilling and how much one would require to eat of each m order to live properly. He also urged that more simplicity of food should be used, and pointed out that the races who made their mark m the world were all simple m their foods. This inaugural meeting is the commencement of a great effort to dispel ignorance and spread knowledge throughout the Dominion. Dr. Truby-King has been released from the Mental Hospitals Department and has joined the Health Department m order to carry out this great work.
