New Zealand Trained Nurses' Association

Auckland Branch

The Council has pleasure m presenting the twelfth annual report. Since the Auckland branch of the Association was established m 1908, ivith Mrs. Bedford as first president, it has made steady, satisfactory progress. There are now 300 members on the register, 50 being life members. Last March, the president (Mrs. Todd Smith) resigned m view of an extended visit to Europe, and Mrs. Tracy Inglis consented to act during the remainder of the term. Mrs. Kidd attended the Triennial Council Meeting m Christchurch on October 29th, 1919, as delegate from the Association. Last August, Council members had the pleasure of meeting Miss Helen Williams, of Dunedin, hon. secretary of the Nurses' Memorial Fund, who gave interesting facts relating to the fund and its value to nurses who are m need of temporary or permanent assistance. It is very gratifying to know that the fund is an assured success. The third annual report is very satisfactory, but as the need for a larger endowment is increasing, donations and annual subscriptions will be gratefully received. Miss Maclean's presence at a Council meeting was much appreciated by the members, who have few opportunities of meeting the Matron-in-Chief. The Club continues to do good work under the excellent management of Miss Houchen, and is already too small for the ever-increasing number of applicants for residence. The new Council will be called upon to consider the necessity for an annexe. The grounds have been laid out and a permanent wall erected. Towards the cost of this work a cheque for £50 was given by Mr. and Mrs. R. J. Onians, of Melbourne, m memory of Mrs. Onians' training days at Thames Hospital.

Smaller sums were also donated by former nurses, and Mr. John Fleming kindly donated a debenture of £10. Mrs. Todd Smith was one of the two delegates from New Zealand to the Women's International Conference m Norway, wfaere she had a very interesting time. Sincere thanks are due to the hon. auditor (Mr. E. A. Aickin) and the hon. solicitor (Mr. Win. Oliphant) for their willing services during the year. Also thanks to Dr. Coldicutt and Dr. Gladys Montgomery for medical assistance to the Club on several occasions. Nomination papers were sent out to all members for a new Council, and the result of the ballot was as follows: — President, Mirs. Tracy Inglis ; vice-presidents, Misses Browne and Taylor; hon. -secretary, Miss Stewart; hon. treasurer, Mrs. Aickin; medical members, Dr. Maguire, Dr. Coldicutt, Dr. Gladys Montgomery; Council, Mesdames Oliphant and Moss, Misses Gibbons, M. Stewart, Nutsey, A.E.R.C., and Garland (to these Mrs. Motion and Miss Winter were added to the Council) ; Central Council, Mesdames Kidd and Oliphant and Miss A. Bagley. Owing to the absence m Australia of our auditor, the annual report is late m being issued.
