Otago Branch

The only thing of importance to report is the welcome home by this branch to I.ieut.-Col. O'Neill, D.SO., and other members of the medical ard nursing professions who have returned from active service abroad. It took the form of an "at home" m the rooms of the Otago Women's Club, kindly lent us for the occasion (as our own club-room is not large enough), and was a most successful gathering, nearly 200 being present, including Miss Maclean, Matron-in-Chief, Brigadier-General McGavin, D.G.M.S., and Dr. Valintine, who happened to be m Dunedin. Speeches Were made by several returned medical men and others, and many complimentary references were made to the exec Ilent work done by New Zealand nurses. Much regret was expressed at the unavoidable absence of Miss Holford, President of this branch ; her place was taken by Mrs. Falconer, Vice-president, who read a telegram from Miss Hoiford, wishing us a successful evening. The guests were received by the two vice-presidents, Mrs. Falconer and Miss Thomson, and the members of

the council. Most of the nurses present wore their uniforms, and with military uniforms of returned doctors and nurses the room looked quite gay. Some excellent music was contributed by nurses' friends, several songs and trios for strings and piano, which was much appreciated, and supper concluded a wry enjoyable evening.

The monthly social evenings have been resumed this winter, and it is hoped to keep up the interest m them, and we expect to have many interesting accounts of their experiences from some of our much-travel-led members.

Nurse Barclay has resumed her work as district nurse for the St. John Ambulance Association, and Nurse Torrance, the other St. John's district nurse, has resigned that position m order to do similar work for Knox Church only. This is a new departure m church work.

[Editor's Note. -We regret that an incorrect notice of Nurse Torrance's appointment was put m last number of the journal.]
